Conservatory Celebrates Glenn Gould's 80th Birthday |
On September 23 and 24, The Royal Conservatory celebrates the 80th birthday of Glenn Gould, one of our many illustrious alumni. He will be honoured through two genre-spanning concerts offering a banquet of Bach, the composer with whom he is most often identified. Gould himself will make a special appearance!

Stewart Goodyear
Celebrated alumnus Stewart Goodyear presented a pop-up concert in front of The Royal Conservatory on July 24, performing Beethoven's Piano Sonata in F Minor, op. 57, no. 23, "Appassionata," 3rd movement. The event was part of Play Me, I'm Yours, an initiative that brought 41 pianos to locations across Toronto. In this video
of the performance, he explains how The Conservatory fostered his passion for music.

Student Wins International Competition
|
Fourteen-year-old Annie Zhou (pictured with Emanuel Ax), a student of The Royal Conservatory's Young Artists Academy, is the first Canadian to win First Prize in the under-15 category of the13th International Competition for Young Pianists held in Enttlingen, Germany. The prize was announced on August 11.

Strategies for Engaging Special–Needs Students

Our most recent Royal Conservatory Piano Pedagogy Summit featured internationally respected author and educator Dr. Scott Price sharing his successful approaches for teaching – and reaching – students with a variety of special needs. His guiding philosophy, which
attracted the attention of Lang Lang, is: "music doesn't discriminate, neither should the teacher."
